Importing AVI Files in to Davinci Resolve?

In fact, there is hardly anything DaVinci Resolve doesn't support. However, it doesn't mean that you can import every piece of video into this world famous color corrector and amazing editor. When it comes to importing AVI files to DaVinci Resolve, you may find that this editing program fails to recognize or sometimes may crash, which is really a great pain. If you're having trouble editing AVI files in DaVinci Resolve 12, 11, 10, etc., read on for details.

Part 1. Problems for Importing AVI Davinci Resolve

Q 1: Hello I recently installed Resolve 12 and I have some AVI files i need to import. opening the drives in the media browser i can see the folder but not the files in it. are there any plugins i can use to add codecs to resolve?

Q 2: Hello, I'm trying to add gameplay that was encoded into a .avi format and I was wondering why it can't be seen by it? Is it because of the file size (8 gbs)? Also, how do I add audio files into it? Trying to add .mp3 files

Part 2. Reason for AVI files won't work in DaVinci Resolve

It's actually a very simple reason: AVI is a container format which can contain uncompressed video and audio codecs. It's obsolete and unsupported by most programs developed in the past five to ten years. In the professional realm (which Resolve sits in) it has been largely supplanted by MOV, and in some cases MXF files. For example, if your AVI file contains H.264, you will encounter problems when editing your videos in Davinci Resovle.

iPhone videos won't load properly in GoPro Studio? - Solved!

How To Prepare Source Video Files for Editing (Windows/PC)

So you've shot a bunch of footage on your GoPro or DSLR camera...now what? Since the H.264 file format used in camera is not designed for editing, you should convert your files into the GoPro/CineForm file format. This format was specifically designed for editing and is compatible with most popular non-linear editing applications (iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Premiere, AVID, Vegas, etc.).

Step 1

Launch GoPro CineForm Studio and Import your camera's source files by using the 'IMPORT NEW FILES" button in the top left-hand corner of the application window.

Step 2

Select the first clip in the bin to open it in the playback window. If you only wish to convert a portion of your video, use the playback controls and the IN and OUT buttons to trim the beginning and ending of the clip.

Step 3

Select a File Name and Directory Location for the converted clip.

Optional Step: Use the "ADVANCED SETTINGS" to set the Resolution, Frame Size, File Format and Quality of the converted file...or just leave these at their defaults. Please refer to the GoPro CineForm Studio User Guide for more information about these options.

Step 4

Click the "ADD CLIP TO CONVERSION LIST" button to send it to the Conversion List Bin.

Step 5

Add more clips to the Conversion List by repeating steps 2-4 for the remaining clips in your bin. Then click the "CONVERT ALL" button.

CONGRATULATIONS!

You now have new GoPro/CineForm files saved in the folder you specified in the "SAVE TO" location in Step 3. These new files can be imported into most popular non-linear editing applications... or take them into the GoPro CineForm Studio EDIT room to make color and framing adjustments.

Tips: How to Solve Can’t load iPhone videos to GoPro Studio?

“I'm trying to make a video from some gopro videos I have, but I also want to include some videos from my iPhone too. However when I go to import the iPhone videos, the studio doesn't seem to load them properly. The video sound is nothing but a high pitched static noise, and the videos all play really slow, like they're being played at 1 frame a second.

Has anyone had this issue before? This is my first time using the software, is it only able to process actual gopro videos?”

If you also have the same problems in importing iPhone videos to GoPro Studio, you can use Pavtube Video Converter to help you. With it, you can convert your iPhone video to GoPro Studio friendly format for smooth importing and editing. This program features high efficiency and seamless conversion. With it, you can transcode any iPhone videos including AVI, MKV, WMV, FLV, RM, MPG and some MP4 or MOV and various videos to GoPro Studio compatible MP4 or MOV format. How does Sony Vegas Pro 13 support 4K videos?

Maybe you have got a 4K camcorder and chances are that you have taken up the instantaneous which the camcorder pats to like when traveling with your friend or family and you want to get all your recorded 4K videos into Sony Vegas Pro 13 for editing. To get the job done, you may have to put your 4K files into right format/resolution that's compatible with Sony Vegas. Keep on reading to learn details.

First, Learn why Sony Vegas not support 4K videos

Although the latest version Vegas Pro 13 announced that they support a complete 4K workflow when you're working with 4K XAVC and XAVC S, people still encounter many problems when importing 4K videos to Sony Vegas for further video editing.

To eliminate this confusion, first we should check out the roundup of 4K Video File Formats:

1. XAVC: XAVC is a recording format that was introduced by Sony on October 30, 2012. XAVC uses level 5.2 of H.264/MPEG-4 AVC which is the highest level supported by that video standard. XAVC is also a 4K video file format which can support 4K resolution (4096×2160 and 3840×2160) at up to 60 fps with 4:2:2 chroma subsampling at 600 Mbit/s. On April 7, 2013, Sony announced that it had expanded XAVC to the consumer market with the release of XAVC S. For example, Sony FDR-AX100, FDR-AX33 4K Ultra HD consumer camcorder, Sony HDR-AS100V action camera, etc. all uses XAVC S allowing you to record 4K videos.

2. MTS/M2TS: MTS/M2TS is a file name extension used for the Blu-ray Disc Audio-Video (BDAV) MPEG-2 Transport Stream (M2TS) container file format. This container format is commonly used for HD video on Blu-ray Disc and AVCHD. MTS is developed by Sony and Panasonic together as the recording format for the HD camcorders, commonly the 4K video recorded by the trending Sony, Canon, Panasonic 4K cameras or camcorders is in MTS format.

3. AVCHD: AVCHD (Advanced Video Coding High Definition) is a video format designed for high definition camcorder. It uses a disc structure designed for Blu-ray Disc standard compatibility. Sony, Panasonic, Canon, JVC all produced some high-end HD camcorders including some best 4K camcorders enabling you to record 4K UHD video file in AVCHD format.

4. MXF: Material Exchange Format (MXF) is a container format for professional digital video and audio media defined by a set of SMPTE standards. Many HD camcorders like Canon C500, Panasonic P2 can record 4K video files in MXF format.

5. MKV: MKV (Matroska Multimedia Container) is another 4K video file format with HEVC/H.265 codec. It is an open standard free container format that can hold an unlimited number of video, audio, picture, or subtitle tracks in one file. In other words, it is a multi-track video file format. Microsoft Windows 10 has already added native MKV and HEVC codec support, so you can play your recorded or downloaded 4K videos on Windows 10 PC now.

6. MP4: Numerous emerging stunning 4K Ultra HD videos from the biggest video-sharing site YouTube give us amazing visual feast. You may watch 4K videos online or free download those sharp 2160p videos from YouTube for offline watching to avoid long time buffering. Usually the downloaded YouTube 4K video file format is MP4 (AVC) in 3840 X 2160 pixels.

Though Sony Vegas Pro 13 can be taken as native 4K XAVC editor, it refuse to read other 4K video formats like 4K MTS/M2TS, 4K MXF, 4K AVCHD, 4K MKV, which are excluded from the Sony Vegas compatible format list.

Sony Vegas Pro 13 supported formats:

Opens:
