Q 1: Hello I recently installed Resolve 12 and I have some AVI files i need to import. opening the drives in the media browser i can see the folder but not the files in it. are there any plugins i can use to add codecs to resolve?
Q 2: Hello, I'm trying to add gameplay that was encoded into a .avi format and I was wondering why it can't be seen by it? Is it because of the file size (8 gbs)? Also, how do I add audio files into it? Trying to add .mp3 files
Part 2. Reason for AVI files won't work in DaVinci Resolve
It's actually a very simple reason: AVI is a container format which can contain uncompressed video and audio codecs. It's obsolete and unsupported by most programs developed in the past five to ten years. In the professional realm (which Resolve sits in) it has been largely supplanted by MOV, and in some cases MXF files. For example, if your AVI file contains H.264, you will encounter problems when editing your videos in Davinci Resovle.

Step 2: Select Resolve 9/10/11/12 readable format

Step 3: Converting AVI video files to Davinci Resolve
After all the necessary setting have been done, click the "Convert" button at the bottom right corner to start transcoding AVI to DNxHD .mov. Finally, launch Davinci Resolve. Find the file in the Library panel, and then double click your clip or Right-click and select "Add into Media Pool." Now the clip is added to your Media Pool. If you want to edit AVI media in Final Cut Pro, please choose the "Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422 (*.mov)" as output; For iMovie or FCE, choose the "iMovie and Final Cut Express -> Apple InterMediate Codec (AIC) (*.mov)". For Adobe Premiere Pro, choose "Adobe Premiere/Sony Vegas" > "MEPG-2(*.mpg)".
