Convert Phantom 3 4K Video to DNxHD MOV for DaVinci Resolve

Summary: You may find that DaVinci Resolve won’t import Phantom 3 4K video smoothly. The easy workaround is to convert Phantom 3 4K video to DNxHD MOV for DaVinci Resolve editing.

Phantom 3 Professional 4K Camera:
Finally, a flying camera that packs years of experience in aerial imaging into one compact, easy to use system. With the Phantom 3 Professional, you’re shooting 4K video at up to 30 frames per second and capturing 12 megapixel photos that look crisper and cleaner than ever. A live HD view lets you truly experience flight and see everything from your camera in real time.

Why does Phantom 3 4K video look horrible in DaVinci Resolve?
“I just purchased a DJI Phantom 3 Professional camera, when I import the 4K video into DaVinci Resolve, it looks blurry and pixely. However, when I view the same video out of the folder that it resides in, the video looks amazing. I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong during the import process. Any suggestions?”

The DJI Phantom 3 professional captured 4K video in MP4 or MOV(MPEG-4 AVC/H.264) format, which is not a native editing codec for DaVinci Resolve. In addition, the 4K video footage compressed with MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 will still have big file size, it will take a lot of time for DaVinci Resolve to render those 4K videos. To ensure a smooth workflow of Phantom 3 4K video with DaVinci Resolve, it is ideal for you to transcode Phantom 3 4K video to DaVinci Resolve best editing codec - DNxHD MOV for real-time editing.

  2. Hi! We have read many articles about DJI Phantom drone, and we can mention that your one is useful. DJI is a global leader in drones industry with well-known models such as the DJI Phantom 3. Let us not forget their brand-new models, for example, the Phantom 4, Mavic Pro, and Inspire 2. With that much of variety in their product lines, I can only think of sky is the limit. My favorite one is the DJI Phantom 3 Standard. Obviously, it is cheaper compared to other counterparts but, also offers actual utilities for aerial photography. Thought I might share this DJI Phantom 3 Standard review from where I got to know about this model. https://www.mydronechoice.com/dji-phantom-3-standard-quadcopter-review/

  5. Hi! It is an excellent informational article much appreciate your time and effort. I too had this same problem with the DaVinci Resolve. Lucky for me I found your step-by-step guide. DJ Phantom 3 was the talking point when launched and had features its predecessors for example Phantom 2 did not have. However, I love the fact that DJI’s most recent models such as Phantom 4, Mavic Pro, and Mavic Air has better video specs and improved flight time. Moreover, they have built-in controls through application to edit, share, import, and export clips on the flight. I found this information when I was going through this article and thought to share with you. https://mydeardrone.com/brands/dji/mavic-pro/
